AI search visibility (GEO)

# AI Search Optimization for ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and AI Overviews

How we work

01

### Baseline (prompt panel)

We agree 50 to 150 real buyer prompts with you, run each one 3 times across 7 AI engines, and record who gets mentioned, cited and recommended. That frozen panel is the baseline for everything after.

02

### Fix access & entity

We make sure AI crawlers can reach and read your pages, then make your business facts consistent everywhere: structured data, profiles, directories and your own About page.

03

### Create citable content

We publish answer-first pages that cover the sub-questions AI engines search for, backed by sources, original data and clear comparisons.

04

### Earn mentions

We pitch your expertise to publications, lists and communities where your buyers and AI engines look. Mentions are earned, never bought.

05

### Re-measure monthly

Every month we re-run the prompt panel, compare it with the baseline and report what changed, what didn’t and what we’ll try next.

AI search optimization makes your brand easier for AI assistants to find, describe correctly and cite. MyBebine does this work for ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Claude, in English and French, and measures it with a fixed panel of real buyer prompts. We call the result AI search visibility, because nobody can promise a ranking inside answers that change for every user.

## Why does AI search optimization matter in 2026?

Buyers now meet an AI answer before they meet your website. Comscore’s panel data showed AI Overviews on 39.4% of Google desktop searches in June 2026, up from 25.8% in July 2025 ([Comscore, September 22, 2026](https://www.comscore.com/Insights/Press-Releases/2026/9/Comscores-Q2-2026-AI-Intelligence-Report)). The same report found that ChatGPT’s share of AI prompt volume fell from 70% to 50% between January and June 2026, while Gemini rose to 30% and Claude to 11%. Being visible in one assistant is no longer enough.

Being cited changes what an AI answer does for you. Seer Interactive found that brands cited in an AI Overview earned 120% more organic clicks per impression than when they weren’t cited, in data from January 2025 to February 2026 ([Seer Interactive, April 2026](https://www.seerinteractive.com/insights/aio-impact-on-google-ctr-2026-update)).

Rankings alone no longer decide who gets cited. In March 2026, [Ahrefs found](https://ahrefs.com/blog/ai-overview-citations-top-10/) that only 37.9% of URLs cited in AI Overviews also ranked in Google’s top 10, down from about 76% in July 2025. Google’s AI systems run many related searches across subtopics, a technique Google calls [query fan-out](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/ai-features), so pages that answer the follow-up questions can win citations that head-term rankings don’t.

## Who is AI search visibility for?

- **Brands in considered purchases**, where buyers ask an assistant to recommend a provider before they call anyone: professional services, schools, clinics, hotels, software and agencies.
- **Businesses that AI describes wrongly**, with old prices, a former address or a competitor’s details.
- **Francophone and African brands** that want to appear in French-language answers.
- **Online stores** preparing product data for AI shopping, alongside our [Google Merchant Center](https://mybebine.com/services/google-merchant-center/) work.
- **Companies already investing in [SEO](https://mybebine.com/services/seo/)**, since AI visibility builds on the same foundations.

## What’s included in the AI visibility audit and program?

### A prompt panel that becomes your baseline

We agree 50 to 150 real buyer prompts with you, in English and French, and run each one 3 times across 7 engines: ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Claude. We record who gets mentioned, cited and recommended, your share of voice against competitors, and whether the facts about you are correct. That frozen panel, with timestamped runs, is the baseline every later report is compared against.

### Crawler and rendering access

AI engines can’t cite what their crawlers can’t reach. We check robots.txt, your CDN and firewall bot settings, and your server logs; Cloudflare, for example, [began blocking AI crawlers by default](https://www.cloudflare.com/press/press-releases/2025/cloudflare-just-changed-how-ai-crawlers-scrape-the-internet-at-large/) for new domains in July 2025. We also test JavaScript rendering, because a [December 2024 analysis by Vercel](https://vercel.com/blog/the-rise-of-the-ai-crawler) found that the major AI crawlers from OpenAI, Anthropic and Perplexity don’t run JavaScript. An llms.txt file is available as a cheap, optional extra, never as a promise.

### A clear, consistent entity

AI systems build their picture of your business from many sources. We add Organization and LocalBusiness structured data with sameAs links, complete your Google Business Profile and Bing Places listings, and make your name, address, services and prices consistent across your site, directories and profiles.

### Answer-first content worth citing

We write pages that answer the main question in the first lines, then cover the sub-questions buyers and AI engines ask next, with comparisons, FAQs and original data where you have it. The paper that introduced the term GEO found that adding citations, quotations and statistics raised visibility in generative engine responses by up to 40% in its tests ([Aggarwal et al., KDD 2024](https://arxiv.org/abs/2311.09735)).

### Mentions you earn

In a December 2025 [Ahrefs study of 75,000 brands](https://ahrefs.com/blog/ai-brand-visibility-correlations/), branded web mentions correlated with AI visibility at about 0.66 to 0.71 and YouTube mentions at about 0.74, while backlinks correlated only weakly. Correlation isn’t proof, but it shows where effort tends to pay. We run digital PR for real mentions and inclusion in “best of” lists, plus review programs that follow each platform’s rules.

We never buy mentions, plant fake reviews or seed forums with fake accounts. Google’s [spam policies](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/essentials/spam-policies) now cover attempts to manipulate generative AI responses in Search.

### Measurement you can check

- **GA4’s AI Assistant channel** groups visits from ChatGPT, Gemini, Deepseek, Copilot and Grok, while Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode stay in organic search ([Google Analytics Help](https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/9756891)).
- **Bing Webmaster Tools’ AI Performance report**, in public preview since February 2026, shows citations, cited pages and grounding queries across Copilot and Bing’s AI summaries ([Bing Webmaster Blog](https://blogs.bing.com/webmaster/February-2026/Introducing-AI-Performance-in-Bing-Webmaster-Tools-Public-Preview)).
- **Search Console’s generative AI report** shows impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode, and has been [available to all sites since August 31, 2026](https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2026/06/gen-ai-performance-reports), though it doesn’t show clicks or queries yet.
- **AI crawler logs** show when ChatGPT-User, Claude-User or Perplexity-User fetch your pages to answer someone live.
- **Monthly prompt-panel re-runs** compared with your baseline.

## How does the work run, month by month?

The first week is the baseline: we build the prompt panel with you, run it and archive every answer with a timestamp. The following weeks go to access and entity fixes, because nothing else works if crawlers are blocked or your facts disagree. From the second month we publish content and pitch for mentions, and every month we re-run the same prompts and report the change against the baseline.

We also track a few control prompts that our work doesn’t target, so we can separate our impact from changes the engines make on their own. You can see the archived answers behind every number we report.

## How much does AI search optimization cost?

The AI visibility audit starts at 100,000 FCFA or $450, one-off. The monthly AI search program starts at $900 a month internationally; for businesses registered in the CEMAC zone, it starts at 75,000 FCFA a month as an add-on to an SEO program. Monthly work runs on a 3-month initial term, then month to month. All prices are on our [pricing page](https://mybebine.com/pricing/).

## How does MyBebine compare with DIY or a typical GEO offer?

| What to check | Do it yourself | Typical GEO offer | MyBebine |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| How visibility is measured | Occasional manual checks | Varies | Fixed prompt panel, 3 runs on 7 engines, archived |
| Promises | None | Varies; be wary of guarantees | No guarantees, honest monthly reports |
| Languages | Yours | Varies; rarely Francophone Africa | English and French, including Francophone Africa |
| Technical access checks | Only if you know where to look | Varies | Crawlers, CDN rules, rendering and logs |
| How mentions are earned | Your own outreach | Varies | Digital PR and genuine reviews only |

We compare process here, not results. The engines decide what they show.

## Which AI visibility problems do we fix most often?

- robots.txt or a CDN rule blocks OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot or PerplexityBot, and nobody decided it should.
- Prices, services or FAQs only appear after JavaScript runs, so most AI crawlers see an empty page.
- `nosnippet` or `max-snippet` rules limit how Google can use your pages in AI features.
- Old prices, addresses or service lists still live on directories and profiles.
- No single page states clearly who you are, what you do, where and for whom.
- Pages answer the main question but none of the follow-up questions.
- English and French pages aren’t linked with hreflang, so assistants may cite the wrong language.
- Analytics can’t show AI referrals, so no one knows whether the work is paying off.
- Your brand is missing from the “best of” lists AI engines read in your category.

## What’s different about AI search in French, Cameroon and Africa?

French-speaking markets are catching up fast. AI Overviews and AI Mode [reached France on July 22, 2026](https://www.blogdumoderateur.com/google-deploie-ai-overviews-ai-mode-france/), after Google had expanded AI Mode to more than 200 countries and territories and more than 35 new languages in [October 2025](https://blog.google/products-and-platforms/products/search/ai-mode-expands-languages-locations/).

Most AI visibility services are built for English-language markets, and in our September 2026 market review we found none focused on Francophone Africa. We run every prompt panel in English and French, from the markets you sell in, and check whether assistants cite the right language version of your pages. For businesses in Douala, Yaoundé or Bamenda, entity work matters most: a complete Google Business Profile, consistent directory listings and coverage in local media give AI systems facts they can trust.

## What do we need from you?

- A list of 3 to 5 competitors, your priority products or services, and the questions customers ask before they buy.
- User invitations to Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools and GA4, and to your CDN or firewall settings if you use one.
- A user account on your website, and access to server logs if your host provides them.
- A short fact sheet we can keep consistent everywhere: legal name, address, founding year, services, prices and areas served.
- Your approval before we publish content or pitch your story to the press.

## What are the honest limits?

- **No guaranteed mentions or citations.** AI answers vary by user, wording, location and time, and the companies behind them decide what to show.
- **Measurement is sampling.** A prompt panel is a disciplined sample, not a view of every conversation, and no tool can see private chats.
- **Platforms change without notice.** A model update can move results overnight, in either direction.
- **Studies show correlation.** The mention and citation research above describes patterns, not promises.
- **It doesn’t replace SEO.** Google says its AI features have no special requirements beyond good SEO, so weak SEO limits AI visibility too.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is generative engine optimization (GEO)?

GEO is the work of making your brand visible, correctly described and cited in answers written by AI systems such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. The name comes from a research paper by Aggarwal and colleagues, first published in November 2023 and accepted at KDD 2024. We call our service AI search visibility, because no one can promise a fixed ranking in answers that change with every user.

### What’s the difference between GEO, SEO and AEO?

SEO helps your pages rank in search results. AEO (answer engine optimization) and GEO describe the newer goal of being the source an AI answer uses and cites. They overlap heavily, and Google says its AI features have no special requirements beyond sound SEO. GEO adds work that SEO often skips: measuring AI answers directly, checking AI crawler access and earning brand mentions across the web.

### Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my business?

No, and no honest provider can. AI answers vary by user, wording, location and time, and the companies behind them decide what to show. We guarantee a clear baseline, work that follows each platform’s rules and honest monthly measurement. Google’s spam policies now explicitly cover attempts to manipulate generative AI responses, so shortcuts can hurt you.

### How do you measure AI search visibility?

We use a fixed panel of real buyer prompts, run several times on each engine, and track how often you are mentioned, cited or recommended compared with competitors. We add first-party data: GA4's AI Assistant channel, the AI Performance report in Bing Webmaster Tools, Search Console’s generative AI impressions and AI crawler visits in your server logs. We don’t rely on single screenshots or third-party 'AI scores’.

### Does llms.txt help?

Not in any way that has been proven. Google says you don’t need new machine-readable files or AI text files to appear in its AI features. An llms.txt file is cheap and harmless, so we offer it as an optional extra, but we never sell it as a ranking lever.

### Should I allow AI crawlers on my website?

If you want AI visibility, yes, at least the search crawlers. OpenAI runs OAI-SearchBot for ChatGPT search and GPTBot for training, and Anthropic separates Claude-SearchBot from ClaudeBot in the same way, so you can allow search and still block training. Blocking OAI-SearchBot keeps your pages out of ChatGPT search answers, and Google-Extended controls Gemini grounding as well as training. Allowing training bots is a business decision we’ll walk through with you.

### How long does AI search optimization take?

The baseline takes about a week. First measurable shifts typically appear in 6 to 12 weeks, once crawlers have revisited your fixed pages and new content is indexed. Entity and mention work compounds over months, which is why the monthly program starts with a 3-month initial term.

### Does structured data help with AI citations?

It helps machines understand who you are, which supports entity clarity, but there’s no proof it earns citations by itself. Google says no special markup is required for AI Overviews or AI Mode. We add accurate Organization, LocalBusiness and Product data because it’s good practice, not as a citation trick.

### Does AI search work in French and for African businesses?

Yes. AI Overviews and AI Mode reached France on July 22, 2026, and assistants answer in French across Europe, Canada and Africa. Most AI visibility services focus on English-language markets, so we run every prompt panel in both English and French and check whether assistants cite the right language version of your pages.
